According to the statement released by the Daejeon EKfem on Wednesday, throughout the process of monitoring the Gapcheon Stream, 100m down from the Wonchongyo Bridge two Eurasian Spoonbills were spotted.
Eurasian Spoonbills are classified as the natural monument (205-2) and under the protection because they are classified as endangered species.
Often times the Eurasian spoonbills use their long spoon like beak to eat or hunt for its food throughout streams or swamps.
Although majority of the Eurasian Spoonbills are stationed widely throughout Eurasian continent, it is very hard to locate on in South Korea. Only 200 or the species are accounted for in Korea.
“Given the activity in Gapcheon Stream second year in a row shows potential of Eurasian Spoonbills visiting South Korea every winter, this showcases the widened variety of species within Gapcheon stream area,” adding “basing off from Eurasian Spoonbill’s we will request the city government to protect and use the opportunity to advertise the area.” addressed official of Daejeon Ekfem.
Eurasian Spoonbills were found near the top area of Wonchongyo Bridge in February for the first time in Daejeon.
