Flights between Taiwan and South Korea restarts

SEOUL November 26 (Yonhap) -- Following the reinstatement of the flight between South Korea and Japan, and Southeast Asia, flight connecting between Taipei and Jeju island will be reinstalled soon, for the first time for Chinese region.

Expected reinstatement of the flights departing to china will expedite the process of recovery of traveling industry stagnated due to continued Covid19.

Budget airline from Taipei departed from Taoyuan airport in Taiwan on November 25 at 7:30 p.m. successfully landed in Jeju international Airport successfully with 180 of the passengers on board.

This will be the first flight between Taipei and South Korea in almost 3 years since the line has been held under a pause due to mass spread of COVID 19 since February of 2020.

180 of the passengers all consist of tourists from Taiwan.

Tickets for the flight was book within a blink of an eye to a point where the chairman of the Tigerair Taiwan was not able to book a ticket for the celebration of reinstatement of the flight between south Korea and Taiwan.

“It has been over 30 years since I have been to Jeju, and I am very glad that I can be here once again,” adding “I am visit Jeju because of an event I need to attend for my business therefore I am here with my business partners, however I plan on enjoying my stay here once I am done with my work.” addressed one of the visitors of Jeju island from Taiwan.

Visitors from Taiwan were not only very pleased of all the events Jeju city government and Jeju Tourism Organization has planned out for the visitors but also because they are finally able to visit Jeju island freely once again, just like it was before Covid 19 hit the world.

Jeju city government and Jeju Tourism Organization greeted the visitors from Taiwan with flowers and tumblers with welcome brochures.

Tiger airline which has continued on with their flight between Jeju Island and Taiwan since March of 2017 up until February of 2020, plans on flying regularly between Jeju Island and Taipei every Tuesday Friday and Saturday.

Visitors from Taiwan in Jeju Island showcased increase gradually since 28 thousand people visited in 2017, 51 thousand people in 2018, and 87 thousand people in 2019, until COVID 19 struck the world.
Connection between Jeju Island and Taipei is expected to increase even wider.

Following the Tiger Airline, T’Way air plans on connecting Jeju Island with Taiwan starting on December 24, twice every week, and starting in January of 2023, they plan to increase the frequency up to four days in a week.

Continuing with the direct flight, Hong Kong’s budget airline Hon Kong Express plans on operating flights between Jeju Island and Hong Kong 4 days a week starting from January 22.

Kim Mi-young from Jeju Tourism Organization addressed “Taiwan is the first country to have decided to reinstate flight between South Korea after Covid 19,” adding “This will serve as a great bridge into returning back to the state of pre covid 19 since Hong Kong will join in on reinstating their flight between South Korea and Hong Kong.”
