Nocturnal event to be held around Baekje Royal Palace in April

SEOUL, Mar. 17 (Yonhap) -- The royal palace of Baekje will go back 1,600 years under the moonlight of full-blown cherry blossoms.

The 2023 Iksan Cultural Heritage Night Event will be held from Apr. 7 to 9 in time for the blooming season around the Baekje Royal Palace, which is already well-known as a spot to smell the spring in the air with full-blown cherry blossoms.

The upcoming Night Event, which will be held under the theme of “Revived Baekje Royal Palace,” will be the first of 47 scheduled nocturnal events nationwide.

During the event, which has been named one of the best 100 Korean tourist spots, splendid night scenery will catch the eyes of visitors as well as the backyard of the Baekje Royal Palace.

In addition to the photo event for MZ generation visitors, the city of Iksan will organize and carry out diverse participatory programs such as wearing traditional Baekje clothes. In the palace garden, once used as a resting place for the kings, royal banquets, tea-drinking events, and various performances will be organized for visitors to get a taste of the beauty of the Baekje kingdom.

Several anecdotes regarding the palace will also be told during the event along with a program during which visitors can say their wishes under the starlight and a commentary program during which they can learn about the history of the ancient kingdom.

A prominent South Korean lecturer Choi Tae-sung will be appearing to give a lecture on the exquisite history of the kingdom.

Shuttle buses will run every fifteen minutes, and there will be free parking lots ready for visitors. There will also be buses ready to take visitors from the Iksan Station or the Bus Terminal directly to the event venue.

“This year’s nocturnal event will show off various participatory events,” a city official said. “Visitors will be able to make unforgettable memories at the Baekje Royal Palace with their families, lover, or friends.”
