SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- A permanent performance hall, where one can see and enjoy Baekje-related culture and arts, will be built in Gyeong-ju, South Chungcheong province.
Gongju City announced on Wednesday that it has decided to build the Baekje Culture Starcation at the site of the second area of the Gongju Cultural Tourism Site in Ungjin-dong, at an investment of 18.8 billion won from 2023 to 2025, in order to provide new attractions for tourists visiting the region.
The 200-seat performance hall with three floors above the ground (building area 3,320㎡) will be made in a way that allows the display of three-dimensional fantasy plays and shows using advanced multimedia technology.
Particularly, high-quality performances related to Baekje, which were only available during the Baekje Cultural Festival, will also be staged permanently.
"Currently, there is not enough space to view and enjoy the contents of Baekje in Gongju," said mayor Choi Won-cheol. "We will build an infrastructure that matches the image of Baekje's ancient city and reborn as a classy cultural and tourism city," he said.
