SEOUL, Mar. 13 (Yonhap) -- Foreign cruise ships will finally enter the Yeosu Port in South Jeolla Province this year.

The entry of foreign cruise ships, which was entirely banned due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, finally resumed last October, according to Yeosu City on Monday. The city’s Port will be welcoming three foreign cruise ships for the first time in three years.

The 28,000-ton “Silver Whisper,” carrying a total of 677 people including 382 passengers and 295 crew members, will enter the Port from the U.S. The French shipping company’s “Lysoreal” will then be entering the Port in May, followed by “Silver Whisper” re-entering in October.

The city is currently devoting all its time and effort to preparing for the arrival of foreign cruise ships by organizing welcoming events, opening currency exchange centers, and maintaining tourist information centers.

“It will serve as a good opportunity to promote Yeosu to the world,” said Shin Young-ja, the head of Yeosu City’s tourism division. “We will continue to interact with cruise shipping companies and officials in order to have more cruise ships entering our Port.”
