'Whale Watching Tour' exceeds over 7 thousand passengers within August

SEOUL September 3 (Yonhap) -- Ulsan Namgu City Management Corporation disclosed the information that the total amount of the passenger for “Whale Watching Tour” exceed over 7 thousand within the month of August on Saturday.

According to the corporation, over 7 thousand and 93 people have used “Whale Watching Tour” service within the month August.

Number of passengers in August of 2022 comes up to 92 percent of the total, 7 thousand 706 passengers that used the “Whale Watching Tour” service in the previous year.

Moreover, this is the most amounts of passengers accumulated within a month that “Whale Watching Tour” has ever gotten within the past five years.

Whale Watching Tour which kicked off in April 2 of 2022, went on total of 111 tours up until August of 2022 including 104 rounds of Whale searching and total of 7 tour of coast tour. Total passengers accumulate up to over 18 thousand people.

Ulsan Namgu City Management Corporation expects to attract in total of nearly 25 thousand passengers throughout the season.

Based on the levitation of the regulations regarding the wide spread of COVID 19 travelers who visit South Korea are expected to increase, also conjoined travel programs being advertised, South Korean dramas loved by global fans featuring Whales and more various reasons will add into the potential spike of the increase in travelers from not only foreign countries but different regions .

According to the Ulsan Namgu City Management Corporation, compared to the average rate of foreign visitors, which stands within 45 percent, about 60 percent of the passengers within this year were foreigners.

Out of numerous round trips of “Whale Watching Tour,” dolphins were spotted total of 10 times, within the month of August, dolphins were spotted five times.

A cold water zone formed within the coast line of Ulsan lead the decrease in the frequency of dolphins being spotted, as time went by, dolphins started to re appear starting in mid August.
