SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) -- Cheorwon County in Ganwon Province announced on Tuesday they will hold bird-watching tour, where visitors can closely watch winter migratory birds such as red-crowned cranes, swans, and wild geese, temporarily for the winter.
At Chorwon plain, known to be the paradise for Winter migratory birds, warm waters runs underground even in the winter and birds stay there at peace as it is designated as restricted area since the Korean War Armistice in 1953.
Breadbasket spread out widely is full of food even after the harvest, which  is perfect for the birds to get through the winter.
Seven out of 15 types of red-crowned crane spread out globally are known to visit Cherowon to get through the winter. 
Cherwon county will operate bird-watching tour at peace observatory beginning Nov. 11 to end of next March.
The tour will take about 2 hours to go round  Sapsulbong Peak (Ice Cream Hill), bird-watching observatory, modern cultural street, and Woljeong-ri Station.
The tour will depart from DMZ Crane Peace Town in Yangji-ri every day except Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
In order to reduce the damage to the ecosystem caused by reckless bird watching, the group wiill travel by shuttle bus.
An official from Cheorwon-gun said, "The crane observation whithin the habitat for migratory birds at Hantangang River is not operating due to river embankment maintenance work this winter."
