SEOUL, Apr. 11 (Yonhap) -- The Gochang Green Barley Field Festival is scheduled to take place at the Hakwon Farm in the county of Gochang for two days from May 15, the county in North Jeolla Province confirmed Tuesday.

This upcoming glaringly green festival, to be held along the 66-hectare-wide barley field, has been acclaimed as a representative spring festival gathering more than 500,000 tourists annually. Diverse hands-on events such as “Barley Coin Treasure Hunt” by which tourists will get a gift set in exchange for barley coins they find hidden in the field, and “Making Barley Bread and Beer” are scheduled for this year’s festival.

Meanwhile, many-sided performances will also be put on stage, including a youth rock band’s concert and busking performances along the vast barley field. Moreover, shuttle buses will also be ready to transport tourists from Jeongeup Station to the festival venue every weekend.

“Our Gochang Green Barley Field Festival, which will be having its 20th, has earned the title of Korea’s iconic agricultural festival. It also won Korea’s representative brand award for two years in a row,” said Shim Deok-seop, head of the county.
