SEOUL, Mar. 17 (Yonhap) -- The county of Gangjin in South Jeolla Province held an opening ceremony for the temple food experience center “Doban” on Friday.
The county formerly named Monk Hongseung to be in charge of the county’s grand project to re-brand the county as the “City of Taste and Music” by using a centuries-old Korean restaurant building.
Invested 400 million won from the local extinction response fund, the experience center finally opened after three months of construction since December.
The county plans to develop Gangjin into a center of temple food culture by developing temple food recipes and training chefs to reflect the dynamic food culture and expand opportunities for tourists to visit the county.
Kang Jin-won, head of the county, said, “Only one exclusive killing content will do to attract tourists as much as we want,” adding, “We hope that Doban will be a great help in promoting our county as a city of taste and music.”
Monk Hongseung, who will be in charge of operating the temple food experience center, emphasized the importance of the center, saying, “We will take the lead in recruiting students from time to time and training them as professional temple food chefs and instructors to promote Gangjin as the center of temple culture.”
The center will be operated normally from Mar. 24 after the last-minute preparation.
