SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor Park Hyung-sik will make his return to the small screens by starring in tvN’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday period drama “Our Blooming Youth.”

During the press conference of the drama series held online on Wednesday, the actor said, “It has been a long time since I have starred in a period drama,” adding, “I fell in love with the script the moment I started reading it.”

It is the first time in six years that the actor, who made his debut as a member of the now-defunct South Korean boy group ZE:A, has appeared in a period drama since the KBS drama “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth” (2016 - 2017), which depicted the story of a group of youthful warriors in the ancient Silla Dynasty building love and friendship among themselves.

The actor skillfully played the role of Prince Sam Maek-jong, who would later be crowned King Jinheung, in this period romance drama.

The soon-to-be-aired “Our Blooming Youth” will be depicting the romantic relationship between Crown Prince Lee Hwan – played by Park Hyung-sik –, who suffers from an unidentified curse, and Min Jae-yi – played by Jeon So-nee –, an extraordinary genius who was alleged as a culprit of a family murder case.

The actor introduced his character, Prince Lee Hwan, as “a prince who used to be a genuine and decent child but goes through an accident that makes him lose trust in people around him.” The prince then meets Jae-yi and solves a case while living a lonely life without having people around him.

“It was my first time wearing the traditional outfit for a crown prince; however, after shooting for a while, the outfits became worn,” the actor said with a smile. “I felt like I actually was living the life of a crown prince.”

Jeon So-nee introduced her role as “an attractive person who gives and receives help.”

She then continued, “I also dressed up as a man as a eunuch,” adding, “I tried not to overwhelm myself by being portrayed as a woman who dresses up as a man, which often appears in period dramas. I tried to focus on the situation the character was in.”

South Korean actress Pyo Ye-jin plays Ga-ram, Min Jae-yi’s only friend; Yoon Jong-seok plays Han Seong-on, and Lee Tae-sun plays Kim Myung-jin, a geek who dreams to become a coroner.

Producer Lee Jong-jae, who is best known for his work in “100 Days My Prince” (2018), will direct the drama based on the script written by screen player Jung Hyun-jung, who wrote the script for “I Need Romance” series (2011-2014) and “Discovery of Love” (2014), which kept the viewers on the edge of their seats by delicately depicting the subtle psychology of young couples.

Producer Lee said, “Our drama is a mystery romance drama which means that there will be many things to watch, and there will be both exciting and touching parts,” adding, “Viewers will get a taste of multiple genres.”

“Our Blooming Youth” will premiere at 8:50 p.m. (KST) on Feb. 6
