North Korea unveils historic relics from the Goguryeo period in Pyongyang

SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- An academic research group from North Korea's Kim Il Sung University's history department investigated and excavated relics from the Goguryeo period (B.C. 277-A.D. 668) in Rimhung-dong, one of the fifteen neighborhoods in Taesong-guyok, Pyongyang, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Wednesday.

 

The news agency added, "Based on this, research on Goguryeo's history and Pyongyang's history since the 1st century has achieved new results."

Since this report was the only reference to the archaeological excavation, there is still a lack of specific details. However, the news agency provided photographs of the remains and relics revealed in the excavation with the following colored drawings. Based on this, North Korea has excavated two wells, which is presumed to be from the Goguryeo period, and among the relics recovered, a silver and iron pot have been found.
