Prison filming site in Iksan becomes hot place for MZ generations

SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) -- Prison filming set in Iksan, Jeolla province is becoming a new multi-culture space for MZ generation (people born in 1980s - 2000s) as it provides various hands-on programs.

According to the city on Tuesday, hands-on program "Prison Escape" using room escaping application will take place on Dec. 11.

This program gaining popularity among young people as a new tourism content, in which AR is utilized inside the filming set and participants become main characters to solve mission.

Meanwhile, the ticketing for hands-on program "Prison is alive" held in last month was sold out in just a min. at online ticketing website, receiving great responses.

The program, which is set for only 32 people to participate in each events considering the safety and target MZ generation, is composed of play with real actors and room escaping games to suit tastes of young people.

Local young artists planned out the program, featuring elaborate stories and performing realistic actions.

In last October, "Horror Hologram Festival" utilizing horror contents and hologram took place and 13,000 people visited.

The biggest prison filming set in Korea, it opened in 2005 by creating prison facilities such as lookout tower, interrogation room, and inmates' cubicles at a ground where elementary was closed down.

At Prison filming site in Iksan where more than 100,000 people gather annually, 24 works of drama and movies were filmed last year despite COVID-19, recording its own highest number since its opening. 17 works were filmed this year.

City official said, "I think the popularity is continuing because it has facilities similar to real prisons," adding, "By expanding the convenient facilities and hands-on activities, We will develop it into city's main tourism facility where young people can enjoy safely."
