Mud Diving Frenzy: Boryeong Mud Festival Starts on July 19

SEOUL, July 16 (Yonhap) -- This year's Boryeong Mud Festival, a hallmark of summer, is set to open on the 19th.

The city of Boryeong in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 16th that the 27th Boryeong Mud Festival will be held from July 19th to August 4th at Daecheon Beach’s Mud Expo Plaza.

This year, the festival promises a variety of unique and entertaining mud-themed experiences. New additions include the Mud Dunk Zone, where visitors can enjoy activities such as the Mud Valley and Mud Fondue, along with traditional favorites like the Mud Bath, Mud Slide, and Mud Massage.

The city plans to concentrate experience zones at the Mud Expo Plaza, integrating general zones, family zones, and water park zones to maximize both fun and convenience. Additionally, the festival grounds will feature pine tree rest areas and large shade structures.

A diverse array of performances and side events will take place during the festival. Concerts by renowned domestic and international artists, traditional performances, and street parades will be held, and nighttime will bring fireworks displays and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) parties on the beach.

The festival will also include the sale of mud cosmetics, character merchandise, and Boryeong specialty products. To promote environmental conservation, the festival will run a campaign encouraging the use of reusable cups and utensils to reduce plastic waste.

A Boryeong city official stated, "The Boryeong Mud Festival is undoubtedly the best festival to beat the summer heat. We hope families, friends, and couples visit the festival to create special memories."
