SEOUL, Mar. 26 (Yonhap) – On Sunday, citizens flocked to Musimcheon Stream, a cherry blossom spot in Cheongju, to enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom.
Families, lovers, and friends enjoyed watching the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Musimdong-ro and Musimseo-ro or taking pictures with cherry blossoms in the background.
In warm spring weather, cherry blossoms in Cheongju burst into bloom two weeks earlier than usual.
Cheongju City expects Musimcheon cherry blossoms to peak for a week.
The city is paying attention to safety management, believing that up to 100,000 people will flock to Musimcheon Stream a day during the cherry blossom season due to the lifting of social distancing.
The city established the "Mushimcheon Cherry Blossom Safety Management Headquarters" at the site and deployed a large number of safety management personnel consisting of autonomous disaster prevention groups on the Musimcheon walkways, stairs, and river road crosswalks.
In addition, illegal street stalls and illegal parking are completely prohibited so that citizens can see cherry blossoms without any inconvenience.
A city official said, "Many citizens are going on a cherry blossom outing in Musimcheon Stream," adding, "Since the surrounding traffic is congested, please use public transportation if possible."
