SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has strongly criticized South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, calling him an "abnormal man" for talking about military action against the nuclear-armed North, state media said Friday.

On Tuesday, Yoon said in an Armed Forces Day ceremony that North Korea will face the end of its regime if it attempts to use nuclear weapons, warning of a "resolute and overwhelming" response from the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

(LEAD) N. Korean leader's sister derides Seoul's Hyunmoo-5 missile as 'worthless'

SEOUL -- Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, on Thursday mocked South Korea's Hyunmoo-5 missile, first showcased in a recent military parade in Seoul, as a "weapon of worthless large bulk."

Kim made the remark in a statement carried by the North's Korean Central News Agency, just two days after South Korea unveiled the missile, known to be able to carry an eight-ton warhead, in a military parade marking Armed Forces Day.

Hundreds of homes in N. Korea's Jagang Province swept away by July's heavy rains

SEOUL -- North Korea's northern province of Jagang is presumed to have suffered severe damage from the downpours in late July, with hundreds of houses there being washed away by floods and a landslide, the unification ministry said Wednesday, citing satellite imagery.

Heavy rains in July flooded large swaths of lands along the Amnok River in North Phyongan, Jagang and Ryangang provinces. North Korea's state media has not disclosed details of human casualties.

(2nd LD) N. Korea launches over 150 trash balloons toward S. Korea: JCS

SEOUL -- North Korea launched more than 150 trash-filled balloons toward South Korea on Wednesday, the South's military said, in the first such launch in 10 days.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said some 60 trash bundles have been found in Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi Province due to the latest launch, which marked the 23rd of its kind since the North began the campaign in late May.

(LEAD) N. Korea likely to scrap key inter-Korean agreement at next week's parliamentary meeting: Seoul

SEOUL -- North Korea is likely to scrap a landmark inter-Korean agreement signed in 1991 at next week's key parliamentary meeting, as its leader Kim Jong-un has called for revising the constitution to define South Korea as its primary foe, the unification ministry said Wednesday.

North Korea will convene the 11th session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) on Monday to revise the constitution, nine months after Kim called for removing unification-related clauses and clarifying the nation's territorial boundaries, including the maritime border.

SEOUL -- President Yoon Suk Yeol said Tuesday that North Korea will face the end of its regime if it attempts to use nuclear weapons, warning a "resolute and overwhelming" response from the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

Yoon made the remark during a speech marking the 76th Armed Forces Day, as North Korea has intensified its nuclear threats with the first public disclosure of its uranium enrichment facility last month.
