(LEAD) S. Korea imposes sanctions on 11 N. Korean individuals, 4 entities over ICBM launch

SEOUL -- South Korea on Friday announced fresh sanctions targeting 11 North Korean individuals and four entities in response to the North's latest launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) earlier this week.

On Thursday, North Korea fired a new Hwasong-19 ICBM toward the East Sea at a lofted angle, in the first such launch in almost a year. If fired on a normal trajectory, it would be capable of hitting the U.S. mainland.

Hwasong-19 ICBM is N. Korea's largest long-range missile yet: S. Korean military

SEOUL -- North Korea's new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched this week is its largest long-range missile yet, a South Korean military official said Friday, in the latest sign of progress in the recalcitrant regime's missile development efforts.

Earlier in the day, North Korea confirmed it had successfully test-fired the new Hwasong-19 ICBM on Thursday, after the South's military said it had fired a long-range missile on a lofted trajectory into the East Sea.

(LEAD) S. Korea announces solid-fuel missile-related items for export monitoring over N.K. ICBM launch

SEOUL -- South Korea announced Thursday a list of components and chemicals used in solid-fuel ballistic missile development to be monitored for exports to North Korea, a move aimed at curbing its missile production following the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

The announcement came hours after the South Korean military said the North fired what appeared to be a new type of solid-fuel ICBM on a lofted trajectory into the East Sea earlier in the day.

S. Korea's military condemns N.K.'s ICBM launch as 'illegal, reckless' provocation

SEOUL -- South Korea's military on Thursday denounced North Korea's latest launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) as an "illicit and reckless" provocation and warned the North will be held "wholly" accountable for all measures to follow.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) issued the stern warning, hours after North Korea launched what appeared to be a new type of solid-fuel ICBM toward the East Sea earlier in the day.

N. Korea's 8,400-strong hacking group escalates attacks on S. Korea

SEOUL -- North Korea's state-sponsored cyberunit, comprising some 8,400 hackers, has mounted over 10,000 attacks against South Korea this year, South Korea's cyber operation command said Wednesday.

The Cyber Operations Command revealed these findings during a parliamentary audit session, according to Rep. Lee Seong-kweun of the ruling People Power Party and Park Sun-won of the main opposition Democratic Party.

N. Korea completes preparations to launch long-range missile: S. Korean military

SEOUL -- North Korea has completed preparations to launch a long-range missile and has put a mobile launcher in place, South Korea's military intelligence agency said Wednesday.

The Defense Intelligence Agency gave the assessment during a parliamentary audit, noting the launch could take place before or after the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5.
