(2nd LD) N. Korea says it successfully test-fired new Hwasong-19 ICBM
SEOUL -- North Korea said Friday it successfully test-fired the new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) the previous day, with its leader Kim Jong-un saying the country has secured an "irreversible hegemonic position" in developing delivery means of nuclear weapons.
Guided by Kim, North Korea carried out a "crucial" missile test that set a milestone in "perpetuating the absolute superiority" of the country's armed forces, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

(4th LD) N. Korea launches new solid-fuel ICBM ahead of U.S. election
SEOUL -- North Korea fired what appeared to be a new type of solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) toward the East Sea on Thursday, South Korea's military said, in an apparent move aimed at flaunting its nuclear capabilities ahead of the U.S. presidential election next week.
The ICBM launch, the first in about a year, also came hours after the defense chiefs of South Korea and the United States jointly condemned the North's troop deployment to Russia with "one voice" in the "strongest" terms during the allies' annual defense talks at the Pentagon on Wednesday.

SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un confirmed the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday, describing it as demonstrating the country's "counteraction will" against its enemies.
The remarks came about five hours after the South Korean military said the North fired an ICBM on a lofted trajectory into the East Sea earlier in the day in its first launch of such a missile this year.

(LEAD) N. Korea, Russia hold joint IT exhibition in Pyongyang for 1st time in 18 yrs
SEOUL -- A joint exhibition aimed at promoting information technology exchanges between North Korea and Russia has opened in Pyongyang, the North's state media said Wednesday, marking their first such event in 18 years.
The 2024 DPRK-Russia IT products exhibition opened on Tuesday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in an English-language dispatch, as international attention has focused on North Korea's troop deployment in Russia in apparent support for Moscow in its war with Ukraine.

(2nd LD) N. Korea claims S. Korean drone took off from western border island in Oct. for incursion into Pyongyang
SEOUL -- North Korea said Monday that its analysis of the flight log of a drone that crashed in Pyongyang earlier this month showed it took off from a South Korean border island in the Yellow Sea, insisting that the South Korean military is behind what it claimed were South Korea's drone incursions.
South Korea's military called the North's latest claim "unilateral," saying it is "unworthy" of verifying or responding to.
