GOSEONG, June 16 (Yonhap) -- 2021 Goseong Dinosaur World Expo will open on October 1st and will be held for 38 days.
The head of Goseong County and chairman of the Goseong Dinosaur World Expo organizing committee, Baek Doo-hyun, held a press conference at the county office on Monday to reveal the schedule for the event.
Baek explained that the event, which was originally scheduled to be held for 52 days from September 17 to November 7, will be re-scheduled to 38 days from October 1 to November 7.
"The Goseong Dinosaur World Expo is a representative festival of Korea," Baek said. "We reviewed various measures such as holding, postponing, reducing, and canceling the event, and reducing the duration of the event by listening to the opinions of the county residents."
Baek promised, "The period has been shortened, but we will do our best to prevent the virus and prepare events such as outdoor augmented reality (AR), a realistic video content, to meet visitors' expectations and link various tourism resources to create an event where residents can realize the economic effects of this festival."
Goseong county is one of the world's leading fossil producing sites for dinosaur footprints.
Thousands of dinosaur footprints remain in Goseong county, which is located near the beach.
Goseong county has continuously held the Goseong Dinosaur World Expo in three to four year intervals from 2006 to promote the area through dinosaurs.
Originally, Goseong county was scheduled to host the Dinosaur World Expo last April. However, due to the spread of the corona virus nationwide, the event was postponed for over a year.
