Russia's parliament ratifies bilateral treaty with N. Korea
SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Yonhap) -- The lower house of Russia's parliament on Thursday ratified the bilateral treaty with North Korea that calls for mutual commitment to providing military assistance to each other in the event of an armed attack, Russian media reported.
Russia's State Duma ratified the treaty during a plenary session, the TASS and Sputnik news agencies reported, following the signing of the pact at the summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June.
The "comprehensive strategic partnership" treaty includes a clause committing the two states to providing military support "without delay" if either is attacked.
The ratification came amid growing tensions after South Korea and the United States confirmed the North is sending its troops to fight alongside Russia in the war against Ukraine.
