Ahn Jung-geun's calligraphy
Visitors look at calligraphy written by Korean independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun at Gyeonggi Province Museum in Yongin, south of Seoul, on Dec. 21, 2025. The calligraphic writing has eight Chinese characters meaning "With a deep sigh, I mourn Japan's demise in advance." The independence fighter during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea was executed at a prison in China by Japanese authorities after being arrested in 1909 for assassinating Ito Hirobumi, the Japanese resident-general in Korea, at a railway station in Harbin, a city in China's Heilongjiang Province.
