Comedian Kim Byung-man referred to prosecution over alleged domestic violence

UIJEONGBU, South Korea, Nov. 12 (Yonhap) -- Popular South Korean comedian Kim Byung-man has been referred to the prosecution for allegedly using violence against his ex-wife during their marriage, officials said Tuesday.

The Uijeongbu Police Station referred Kim to the prosecution on charges of assault and inflicting injuries in July, according to officials.

Kim's former wife filed a complaint with the police early this year, accusing Kim of habitually beating her over family issues for years in the past.

The police sent the case to the prosecution based on evidence submitted by the complainant, including her medical record.

"The investigation is nearing an end, but whether to indict him or not has not been decided," a prosecutor official said.

The wife has since made the issue public through a press interview, while Kim has countered the allegations as "untrue."
