Yoon to travel to Peru, Brazil on Nov. 14-21 to attend APEC, G20 summits

SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Yonhap) -- President Yoon Suk Yeol will travel to Peru and Brazil from Nov. 14-21 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Group of 20 summits, his office said Tuesday.

Yoon will visit Peru from Thursday to Saturday to participate in the APEC summit and then travel to Brazil from Sunday to Tuesday for the G20 summit, Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo told reporters.

On the sidelines of APEC and G20 summits, Yoon is arranging a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, a senior presidential official told reporters.

Talks have been also under way to arrange a trilateral summit with U.S. President Joe Biden and Ishiba, as well as a separate meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the official said.

When asked if Yoon might meet with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump en route from or to his South America trip, the official replied that close communications have been under way.

Yoon said he and Trump agreed to meet at an early date during their phone call last week.
