S. Korea reports new avian influenza case at regional farm
SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has confirmed its 11th case of highly pathogenic avian influenza for the season at a regional farm, authorities said Monday.
The latest case was detected at a poultry farm in Cheongyang, South Chungcheong Province, some 125 kilometers south of Seoul, where 140,000 chickens were being raised, according to the authorities.
To prevent further spread, officials have taken measures to control access to the farm to carry out investigations and culled the affected ducks.
The government has conducted inspections on 21 poultry farms in the area, while planning thorough inspections on 25 farms that have suffered avian influenza more than twice since 2016 from Dec. 19-24.
