BOK buys net US$192 mln in market-smoothing operations in Q3
SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) -- The Bank of Korea said Tuesday it had bought a net US$192 million in the third quarter of the year amid the weakening of the Korean won against the U.S. dollar.
The third-quarter dollar buying marks a turnaround from the previous quarter's $5.79 billion selling, the largest since the second quarter of last year.
In the first quarter of the year, the central bank sold a net $1.81 billion.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the central bank purchased a net $1.98 billion, which marked the first in three years to snap the nine straight quarters of dollar selling for market-smoothing operations since the third quarter of 2021.
The won rose to 1,392.50 won to the greenback at the end of September, compared with 1,303.40 won three months earlier.
