SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) -- The National Assembly approved a parliamentary investigation plan Tuesday into President Yoon Suk Yeol's alleged insurrection attempt during his short-lived declaration of martial law.
The plan to kick off a 45-day probe into the martial law imposition passed a parliamentary plenary session in a 191-71 vote with 23 abstentions.
The plan calls for determining the legality of a controversial Cabinet meeting held just before the martial law declaration and whether the military and police were mobilized to stop a parliamentary vote to lift it.
An 18-member special committee, consisting of 10 opposition and seven ruling party lawmakers and one independent lawmaker, will oversee the investigation from this day to Feb. 13.
Government agencies subject to the investigation include the presidential office, Office of National Security, Presidential Security Service under the presidential office, Prime Minister's Office, Supreme Prosecutors Office, interior and justice ministries, police and National Intelligence Service.
The defense ministry and Defense Counterintelligence Command will also face investigation.
