Acting President Han says respects Nat'l Assembly's impeachment decision

SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Yonhap) -- Acting President Han Duck-soo said Friday he respects the National Assembly's vote on his impeachment and vowed to wait for a ruling by the Constitutional Court over the impeachment.

Han's remarks came shortly after the National Assembly voted to impeach him less than two weeks after he assumed the interim leadership for President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was impeached on Dec. 14 for his botched imposition of martial law.

"(I) respect the National Assembly's decision, and in order not to add on to the confusion and uncertainty, my duties will be suspended in accordance to relevant laws, and (I) will wait for the swift and wise decision from the Constitutional Court," he said in a statement.

It marked the first time that an acting president was impeached by parliament.
