SEOUL, July 18 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl group Aespa’s second mini album “Girls” entered U.S Billboard main album chart “Billboard 200” at No.3.
“S.Korea’s quartet girl group Aespa made its first ‘Top 10,’” said Billboard in a preview article about online chart on July 17.
This is the second highest record for K-pop girl group after BLACKPINK’s first full-album “The Album” ranked No.2 on the same chart in 2020.
“Billboard 200” calculates the album consumption ranking by adding the number of traditional album sales such as physical albums, the number of streaming to album sales (SEA), and the number of digital music downloads converted to album sales (TEA).
Aespa sold 56 thousand albums.
56 thousand albums were sold in physical albums, recording the most sold album of the week. SEA was 3 thousands and TEA was 1 thousand.
“Like other K-pop albums, ‘Girls’ has set items and 12 sets of deluxe package that have random collectable items such as photo cards, stickers, and posters,” said Billboard.
Aespa’s second mini album “Girls” has a total of 9 songs with powerful and energetic title song “Girls,” pre-released first english song “Life’s Too Short” and its Korean version “Illusion,” “Lingo,” and “ICU.”
Aespa ranked No.20 with their first mini album “SAVAGE” last year, but within a year, they ranked in “Top 3” this year, becoming a strong player in a global market.
Aespa was also the first ever girl group in the domestic market to sell over a million copies in the first week of release.
