SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) -- The Korean Film Archive has opened an online memorial screening featuring works by the late actor Ahn Sung-ki, who passed away on Monday.
The Korean Film Archive released 10 of Ahn Sung-ki’s representative films from the 1980s and 1990s for free on its YouTube channel “Korean Classic Film.” The titles include "Mandala" (1981), "People of Kkobang-dong" (1982), "Whale Hunting" (1984), "Our Joyful Young Days" (1987), and "Festival" (1996).
The films are HD or 4K restored versions preserved by the archive.
Also unveiled was a video essay titled "Our Joyful Young Days and Ahn Sung-ki", which compiles scenes that highlight the distinctive characteristics of his roles. The nine-minute video features the late actor’s appearances in 10 films from the 1980s, ranging from "A Good Windy Day" (1980) to "Chilsu and Mansu" (1988).
The Korean Film Archive said, “We mourn actor Ahn Sung-ki, who shared his life with Korean cinema,” adding, “The traces of his acting and life left on the screen will be remembered by us for a long time.”
