'My Daughter Is a Zombie' tops box office for 4th week; 'Demon Slayer' leads ticket reservations

SEOUL, Aug. 22 (Yonhap) -- The film "My Daughter Is a Zombie," starring Cho Jung-seok, has remained atop the local box office for four consecutive weeks, signaling another strong weekend performance.

 

According to the Korean Film Council’s box office data, the film drew some 47,000 moviegoers on Thursday, accounting for 28.8 percent of total sales, to stay in first place. Since its release on July 30, it has led the box office for 23 straight days, with a cumulative audience of about 4.73 million.

 

Coming in second was "F1: The Movie," a racing film starring Brad Pitt that opened June 25, attracting about 39,000 viewers (29.1 percent).

 

Director Lee Sang-geun of "Exit" (2019) ranked third with his new film "Pretty Crazy," which was watched by about 15,000 people (9.2 percent).

 

In ticket reservation tallies, "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle," which opened Thursday, ranked No. 1 with an overwhelming 80.3 percent share, or about 889,000 pre-sold tickets, hinting at a blockbuster opening weekend. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, "Infinity Castle" marks the first installment in a trilogy depicting the final arc of the hit manga "Demon Slayer."

 

The second-most reserved event was trot singer Lim Young-woong’s listening party for his second full-length album "I’m Hero 2," set for Aug. 28, with about 49,000 advance bookings (4.5 percent).

 

"My Daughter Is a Zombie" ranked third in ticket reservations (40,000; 3.6 percent), followed by "F1: The Movie" (29,000; 2.7 percent).
