BLACKPINK appointed as UN SDG Adovocate

SEOUL, Sep. 18 (Yonhap) -- Antonio Guterres Secretary-General of United Nations (UN) appointed South Korean idol group BLACKPINK as a Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocate on the 17th (PTI).

"The choices we make now could put us on a path towards breakdown and a future of perpetual crisis or breakthrough to a greener and safer world,” said Guterres.

"The SDG Advocates use their considerable spheres of influence to reach new constituencies to act now and keep the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals for people and for the planet."

Earlier BLACKPINK was appointed the advocate for COP26. UN introduced that they have been encouraging global youngsters to stand up for climate action to protect the Earth.

"We truly believe in the importance of collective action. We can make a difference for us when we are together. Now is the time for us to act for a safer tomorrow and a better world," said BLACKPINK through UN reports.

Apart from BLACKPINK, Noble Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, activist Valentina Munoz Rabanal from Chile and Microsoft President Brad Smith were appointed SDG Advocates as well.

Meanwhile, for “SDG Moment,” UN’s annual event to be held on the 20th, Moon Jae-in South Korean President will attend with BTS to appeal for the future generation’s concern for poverty, overcoming COVID-19 and climate change.
