List of 100 carefully selected K-culture tourism events unveiled

SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will organize 100 K-culture tourism events for foreign tourists to enjoy K-culture in various fields, ranging from art to content, during the 2023 - 2024 Visit Korea Year, the Ministry announced Tuesday.

The 100 K-Culture tourism events were carefully selected through the final review committee with recommendation from 17 metropolitan governments and private experts in culture, area, sports, tourism, and content industry.

Major large-scale events including the Seoul Festa 2023, Suncheon Bay International Garden Fair, Frieze Seoul and Kiaf, Gwangju Biennale, Welcome Daehakro, Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), G-Star, LoL World Championship (Worlds), and 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics.

In addition to the well-known K-pop musical festivals, including the INK Concert, Gangnam Festival, and Jarasum Jazz Festival, an array of local fairs were included to the list: Jinhae Gunhang Festival, DMZ RUN, Nonsan Strawberry Festival, and many more.

To promote these 100 K-culture tourism events worldwide, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will also hold a hands-on experience event in connection with the “K Road Show” that have been held in major overseas cities.

The Ministry and Organization will also release tour packages in cooperation with the local travel industry.

In addition, detailed information will be provided in multiple languages through the overseas promotion website of Korean tourism along with an ongoing welcome campaign for foreign tourists.

Park Bo-kyun, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said, “There will be multiple opportunities ready for foreign tourists to experience K-culture anytime they want all across the country, from Seoul to the provinces.”

“We will ensure to have traveling to Korea enlisted in people’s bucket lists by intensively promoting the year of visiting Korea; we will work in cooperation with the K-culture forward bases that are established around the world, including the Korean Culture Centers, Korea Tourism Organization’s overseas branches, and the King Sejong Institute.”
