[K-Geography] Endangered black paradise flycatcher found in Pohang with four youngs

SEOUL, July 4 (Yonhap) -- Classified as Endangered Wildlife Class II, black paradise flycatchers were found at a hill in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do. As black paradise flycatchers are dispersed in East Asia and the Western Pacific and spend the winter in Southeast Asia, they are hard to be spotted in South Korea during summer season.

Due to their small population and their unique blue eyes and beaks, they are emerging as one of birds photo enthusiasts are thrilled to take the photos of. 

The newly spotted flycatchers nested and hatched eggs in a hill in Pohang last month. Nested between the branches that split in the shape of a "Y", the male and female birds were seen alternatively feeding their four youngs on June 28.

However, after June 29, only the female flycatcher was seen. The male flycatcher never appeared until the youngs have already all grown and left the nest in July 2. There is a high chance the male flycatcher was hunted by the bird of prey.

Yonhap News did not damage the area around the nest during the coverage process and installed a camouflage at a considerable distance to not disturb their growths and developments.
