Passage of contentious broadcasting bill
Lawmakers of the ruling Democratic Party pass a bill aimed at revising the Foundation for Broadcast Culture Act during a plenary session of the National Assembly in Seoul on Aug. 21, 2025, with the main opposition People Power Party boycotting the voting. The bill calls for reducing the government's influence over public broadcasters, but the opposition party argues it will only increase the presence of progressive figures on the boards of public broadcasters.
