Student independence movement remembered in Gwangju

A performance commemorating the 95th anniversary of the student independence movement is held at the Student Independence Movement Memorial Tower in Gwangju, about 267 kilometers south of Seoul, on Nov. 3, 2024. The movement began on Nov. 3, 1929, in the city in protest of Japan's colonial rule of Korea and was attended by over 54,000 students from about 320 schools across the country until March 1930.
