Thousands of troops, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled artillery guns, drones, and missiles take part in a military parade through Seoul
 
This marks the second year in a row that South Korea has held a military parade in Seoul to show off its ever-growing military capabilities to the general public
 
Earlier in the day, Seoul held a formal ceremony marking the 76th anniversary of Armed Forces Day that included over 5,000 military personnel and 340 heavy equipment as well as an impressive flypast by jets and helicopters at Seongnam Air Base south of Seoul
 
Oct. 1 was chosen for Armed Forces Day as it was on this day in 1950 that South Korean forces crossed the 38th parallel and entered North Korea. The advance came after North Korea started the three-year-long Korean War with a surprise attack against South Korea in the early hours of June 25
 
To celebrate the occasion, the S. Korean government earlier designated Tuesday as a temporary holiday this year
