Sakhalin Koreans visit S. Korea
Twenty-four ethnic Koreans who reside on Russia's Far East island of Sakhalin pose for a group photo after arriving at Seoul's Gimpo airport on Nov. 17, 2025, to make an eight-day visit to their mother country with the help of the Korean National Red Cross. Japan forcibly mobilized about 150,000 Koreans to work in coal mines, pulp mills and military facilities on Sakhalin during World War II, when the southern part of the Russian island was under Japanese control.
