S. Korea advises nationals to take caution in Santorini over continuing quakes
SEOUL, Feb. 5 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean Embassy in Greece has asked its nationals staying in Santorini to stay alert after hundreds of earthquakes hit the Greek island in the last two weeks, its website showed Wednesday.
The embassy posted the alert on its website as more than 700 earthquakes, with magnitudes between 3 and 4, have occurred on and around the popular tourist island since Jan. 24.
"We advise our nationals staying in Santorini to take precautions for their safety," the embassy said. "We recommend taking this into consideration when traveling, as aftershocks or strong earthquakes may cause further damage."
Thousands of local residents have been evacuating from the island, with authorities closing schools and advising people to refrain from large indoor gatherings.
