Travel agency announces reopening of tourism to N. Korea's Rason for foreigners

SEOUL -- North Korea has reopened tourism in the special economic zone of its northeastern border city Rason to foreign tourists, the website of a China-based travel agency showed Friday.

"North Korea has reopened tourism in Rason, it's Special Economic Zone in the northeast of the country, according to our local DPRK partners," the website of Young Pioneer Tours, a travel company specializing in North Korea tours, said. DPRK stands for the official name of North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

(LEAD) N. Korea warns of taking action 'more intensively' over S. Korea, U.S., Japan's air drills

SEOUL -- North Korea warned Friday it will "more intensively" exercise the right to self-defense, denouncing South Korea, the United States and Japan for staging combined air drills, involving U.S. B-1B bombers.

The North's foreign ministry issued the statement as the three countries held joint trilateral air drills, involving two U.S. B-1B bombers, Wednesday over the Korean Peninsula following North Korea's recent launches of hypersonic and short-range ballistic missiles.

SEOUL -- North Korea's state media on Friday published reports about impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's detention as part of an investigation into his botched imposition of martial law, two days after he was taken into custody.

The Korean Central Broadcasting Station, a radio broadcaster, and the Rodong Sinmun newspaper, which caters to the general public in North Korea, published the report, citing breaking news from the international community.

N. Korea keeps mum on recent short-range ballistic missile launches

SEOUL -- North Korea's state media remained silent Wednesday, providing no coverage on the country's launch of multiple short-range ballistic missiles (SRBM) the previous day.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and the Rodong Sinmun, the North's daily newspaper for general readers, had not reported on the SRBM launches as of Wednesday morning.

(2nd LD) N. Korea fires multiple short-range ballistic missiles ahead of Trump inauguration

SEOUL -- North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea on Tuesday, South Korea's military said, in a provocation staged just days before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected the launch at about 9:30 a.m. from the Ganggye area in the North's Jagang Province and they flew about 250 kilometers before splashing into the sea. It did not specify the number of missiles fired.
